Head's Up

Start Date: September 2018
Previous Roles: Senior Deputy Head of The Perse School, Cambridge and then Head of St Edmund’s School, Canterbury.
Something people don't know about you: Louise grew up on a council estate in Belfast. She was a high academic achiever, winning a scholarship to Methodist College, Belfast and then studying Classics at Magdalene College Cambridge, but she also held scholarships at the City of Belfast School of Music, studying viola, piano and voice as well as playing sports at county level.

“Marlborough offers a contemporary, challenging and enriching education for pupils with aspiration. In an incomparable setting on the edge of a market town, it offers outstanding facilities and exciting opportunities academically, in sport and in the Arts. Pupils are inspired to pursue excellence and to value achievement.”
Louise Moelwyn-Hughes

As parents we love...

  • Marlborough encourages children to have ambition and to be the best that they can be
  • The diverse community means that children develop lifelong friends from a wide range of backgrounds
  • The extraordinary range of co-curricular activities means that children have the opportunity to develop existing talents but also discover new skills and interests, many of which they will enjoy long after they have left the College.

As pupils we love...

  • Great relationships with teachers. There is always someone to talk to and someone to support their interests, whatever they are
  • Independence. Being encouraged early on to make decisions for themselves but always with plenty of support. Access to the town in Marlborough also teaches a different kind of independence.
  • House competitions. Everyone is so proud of their House that House competitions are always very fiercely contested but also great fun. Everyone loves wearing their House colours and doing their best.

What makes us different

Marlborough offers an outstanding full boarding education with consistently strong numbers gaining Oxbridge places and between 20 to 30 students heading to North America each year, many to to Ivy League Universities such as Yale, Stanford, Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania.

The co-curricular provision is exceptional with professional coaching in sport and the Arts. Our sports teams regularly reach the latter stages of national competitions and a number of our pupils across a variety of sports represent their country in international competitions. Our Symphony Orchestra plays in partnership with the Southbank Sinfonia and our Artists exhibit in the Mount House Gallery. The pastoral care delivered through our 16 boarding houses is unrivalled, ensuring each child is known and cared for individually.
