It’s cold, it’s wet and we still can’t escape, but it doesn’t stop you keeping your holiday dreams alive! We find out from Caroline Foster her four favourite hotels that will whet your appetite for when lockdown is over.
I adore Paris, nothing beats its beauty and architecture for me. It’s my favourite city in Europe and one that I always like to take in by foot and rarely look at my watch. Right in the heart of the city lies Le Bristol Hotel which is an icon of French elegance with a very treasured hidden gem, Le Jardin Francais, the prettiest courtyard garden enveloping you in flowers and orange trees. After a day meandering around Paris, nothing makes me happier than having afternoon tea and then relaxing by their rooftop swimming pool.
Les Sources De Caudalie, Bordeaux-Martillac
A hidden treasure in the South of France, one of my all time favourite hotels. Set in the most beautiful french countryside next to a picturesque lake it feels like a fairytale mini Caudalie village. Created just over twenty years ago using reclaimed materials from abandoned local farms, it has been thoughtfully created to feel like it is as old as the original Chateau with its clever use of different textures of wood and stone.
Their Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa (the birthplace of Caudalie’s beauty range) is nothing short of heaven offering the most wonderful cutting edge treatments. To top it all you can walk round their 600 year old winery, Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte vineyard and learn all about their process and history before relaxing at one of their impeccable restaurants.
One of my favourites hotels in England, being so close to London it makes it a perfect location to easily escape and re-set. Wonderful history, beautiful art, gorgeous rooms, incredible spa and amazing food and service. Sat in over 450 acres of grounds, if this hotel couldn’t be more perfect, you are mistaken as it is also dog friendly too!
Staying in a hotel owned and designed by one of my all time favourite designers Kit Kemp for me is the most incredible way to see New York at its very best. No one has Kit’s design eye, her style is totally unique. The Whitby is a masterpiece, a design and art gallery in its self with every room taking you through a different creative journey. Each room has floor to ceiling windows, wonderful terraces and beautiful big bathrooms. I could book in for a week and happily never leave, however, New York is also too tempting and as it conveniently sits in the heart of upper midtown and a stones throw from Central Park, The Met and every restaurant, gallery, museum and shop you can ever dream of, I somehow force myself too!
