Outside the Wire (2021) – (Netflix) Avengers: Infinity War’s Anthony Mackie plays an android soldier in Netflix’s latest action film offering, Outside the Wire. Set in the near future in 2036, we follow drone pilot Thomas Harp (Damson Idris), whose recent disobedience has landed him in hot water. As punishment, he’s tasked with assisting Captain Leo (Mackie), a classified robot soldier, in acquiring a doomsday device in the midst of a civil war in Eastern Europe.

Unforgotten – (ITV) The popular cold case crime drama Unforgotten returns for another series as Cassie (Nicola Walker) and Sunny (Sanjeev Bhaskar) begin a new investigation. This time, the case centres on a dismembered body which is found in a scrapyard – with the team believing it had previously been kept in a domestic freezer for as long as three decades.

Poldark – (Netflix) Series five of historical drama Poldark has arrived on Netflix, with Aidan Turner returning as the titular Captain for the show’s fifth and final season. The fifth season, which aired on BBC One in 2019, picks up with Ross (Turner) and Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) following the death of Elizabeth, with Ross vowing to put Westminster behind him and spend more time with the people he loves – but when an old friend asks for his help in challenging the establishment again, Ross can’t turn him down.

Bates Motel – (BBC1) New series. A prequel to Hitchcock’s cult classic Psycho, this crime drama dives deep into the lives of a teenage Norman Bates and his mother. Starring Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga.

McDonald & Dodds – (ITV1) – Season two of this police drama kicks off with a balloon ride gone wrong, leaving detectives McDonald and Dodds to untangle a web of lies dating back more than 30 years. Starring Jason Watkins and Tala Gouveia, with guest appearances from Rob Brydon and Martin Kemp.

The United States vs. Billie Holiday – The Federal Bureau of Narcotics launches an undercover sting operation against jazz singer Billie Holiday. It tells the story of the late, troubled jazz singer and how “Strange Fruit,” the anti-lynching protest song she introduced to the world, brought her both triumph, troubles and eventually took her down. But the film largely focuses on the harassment Holiday endured at the hands of the FBI, which saw “Strange Fruit” as incendiary.
