Party Starter
Vecchia Modena Pignoletto – Waitrose £9.99
As much as I love a glass of Prosecco, sometimes I want something a little drier. Step forward Pignoletto, made in a neighbouring region in northern Italy. It has that same fabulous froth as Prosecco along with gorgeous apple fruit flavours. A real crowd pleaser.
Festive white
Specially Selected French Roussanne 2020 – £6.99, Aldi
Add a dash of sunshine to proceedings with this ripe, round Roussanne from the Languedoc. There’s a dash of Viognier in there too and the result is fantastic, all fresh stone fruit flavours.
Festive red
Leyda Reserva Pinot Noir 2020 – £12, Tesco
With so many flavours on the plate – turkey, pigs in blankets, Brussels sprouts, red cabbage, cranberry sauce to name a few – we need a wine that can take all these in their stride and Pinot Noir with a bit of oomph is perfect. This one’s from a cool spot in Chile, fresh and concentrated with an earthy cherry pop to it.
Festive sweetie
Domaine de Lasserre Jurancon 37.5cl – £7, Co-op
If ever you’re going to invest in a bottle of sweet wine, now’s the time to do it. Not that you need to spend a fortune to get a good one, in fact far from it. This sweetie from Jurancon is a dream with blue cheese and will happily take a mince pie in its stride too.
