Congratulations! You’ve made it to the halfway point of what is undoubtedly the longest month of the year. Made even longer for those doing Dry January… Whether you’re giving your liver a well deserved break or simply trying to cut back on the booze this year, fear not! We’re here with some fabulous low or no-alcohol alternatives to get you through.


In recent years, there has been a definite trend of people cutting back on their alcohol consumption. In response, non-alcoholic brands have been popping up everywhere, and continue to emerge to support the growing demand. So, luckily for those struggling through Dry January, there’s a quite a few alternatives to choose from. Here are just a few we’ve picked out:

For wine lovers…

Thomas and Scott Noughty Alcohol-free Organic Sparkling wine, £8 – Waitrose

You don’t miss out on the crisp-apple flavours of a delightful sparkling Chardonnay with this Noughty bubbly. It’s also organic and certified vegan, so toast away to your heart’s content!


Fortnum’s Rosé Sparkling Tea, £14, Fortnum and Mason

If you haven’t tried the original Fortnum and Mason sparkling teas, you’re missing out! If you’ve got a special occasion coming up and want to cater for any non-drinkers, while still have something extra special, this is the one!


Oddbird Domaine de la Prade Merlot Shiraz, £8.99, Amazon

From Southern France comes this beautifully full-bodied alcohol-free red, with delicious notes of blackberry, cherry, plum and caramel. It’s currently out of stock but should be back soon! In the meantime, check out another great red alternative, Rawson’s Retreat 0.05% Cabernet Sauvignon.


Torres Natureo Muscat De-Alcoholised Wine Spain, £4.99, Waitrose

Not only does this Spanish muscat have zero alcohol, it’s also half the calories! The ideal way to enjoy the essence of a smooth Spanish wine without the guilt.


For spirit lovers…

Seedlip Distilled Non-alcoholic Spirits, £17-20, Amazon

Seedlip founder, Ben Branson, wanted to create a sophisticated non-alcoholic cocktail alternative. He combined his farming heritage and a love of nature to produce three distilled mock-spirits made from herbs and botanicals that you can use to make an array of delectable cocktails.


Tanqueray Alcohol Free 0.0%, £14, Waitrose

If you’ve been searching far and wide for gin-alternatives, look no further than Tanqueray’s 0.0%. It retains the gin flavour very well, but be sure to pair it with good quality tonics and garnish to get as close as possible to the real deal. The reviews speak for themselves on this one!


Lyre’s American Malt Non-Alcoholic Spirit (Bourbon Style), £23.50, Amazon

Missing a Saturday night Old Fashioned? This non-alcoholic Whiskey was made for cocktails and Lyre was voted the World’s most awarded non-alocholic brand. They also have Rum and Gin alternatives. Try them for yourself!


For beer lovers…

Guinness 0.0 Alcohol Free, Day-drinker

Same iconic taste but zero alcohol. This is sure to see you through to the end of the Dry Jan drought. It’s so popular that it’s currently out of stock in most supermarkets, but try Day Drinker or even Amazon to get a pack delivered ASAP!

Luckily for beer lovers, many of the most popular brands have a low or no alcohol version of their favourites. There’s Heineken, San Miguel, Old Speckled Hen, Brewdog, Peroni and Budweiser to name just a few. Have a look at ASDA’s Dry Jan beer selection.
