How to avoid social burnout!

After having mostly digital conversations with even our closest friends for the past year, it’s only natural that we want to make up for lost time. We want to see this friend and then that one, and then invite friends over and after that go and find a beer garden that isn’t completely packed and stay there until it gets dark! But we should take care that we’re not riding every social wave, or we run the risk of burning out.

Your social life isn’t running away
According to the insurer Vitality, social burnout can be caused by ‘trying to do too much’ which may eventually lead to ‘seeing socialising as stressful rather than enjoyable.’ Try to make sure you don’t get too carried away and consider being mindful of the following advice:

Cut yourself some conversational slack and remember that ‘everyone’s conversational skills are going to be rusty’.*
Don’t put pressure on yourself to be the funniest or most insightful person there – just relax.

Listen to your body.
Your body will tell you how it – and you – is feeling in any situation. If you’re in a social situation where you’re feeling dizzy or you can’t get your thoughts straight, you might be feeling socially anxious.

Have you thought about what you want?
In a way, we’re bombarded by ideas away about what our social lives should look like. But have you been paying attention to what socially fulfils you, and in what frequency?

By working in harmony with our emotions and taking good care of ourselves, we can enjoy our social lives to the fullest – whatever that might mean for you.
