Interiors expert Bee Osborn, on which white is right!

Choosing the right shade of white is not straightforward. There are 100’s of different whites so when it comes to deciding which white is right it can feel like a minefield.

Our Interiors expert, Bee Osborn is here to help with the dilemma.

Finding the perfect white colour can be a surprisingly hard task to do. The undertone of the white will determine the nuance of the colour.

If the colour has a warm undertone it will have a hint of yellow or red in it, and with a cool undertone it may lean towards more of a blue or green. We recommend starting by looking at the colour charts and looking down at the grading, to see what the end colour is as this will give you an idea of the undertone.

We tend to gravitate towards the more off whites, as we find these infinitely softer and nicer to look at than a stark pure white.

Another great tip is to paint two samples of the colour on large A3 sheets of lining paper, which gives it a good representation of how it will look. Stick them on adjacent walls to see how they look with different light hitting them. It is crucial to check the colour in both daylight and at night, as the colour can change dramatically depending on natural or artificial lighting. It may also be beneficial to do this in rooms that are on opposite sides of the house, depending if you have a north or south facing room as this will change the look of the colour as well.

It’s important to remember is that all paint colours change after 3 months so try not to worry too much about your choices…
