The Latch, is a video-consultation service, providing breastfeeding guidance and support in caring for newborns from me - retired midwife, general nurse and homeopath, mother and grandmother, Alison Lovett.

New parenthood is exciting and oh, so special, but also exhausting, daunting and sometimes even overwhelming when parents realise just how little knowledge and experience they have of understanding and caring for a new person who is entirely reliant on them for all its needs yet is unable to explain what those needs are!

Offering a comprehensive range of packages of care at affordable costs, for novice and experienced breastfeeders alike, I have spent the past 40 years supporting new mothers to breastfeed and now provide the vast majority of my services via video calling, for flexible care and near-instant support for my clients.

Care options include pre-delivery preparation followed post- delivery by either a supervised early video call during a breastfeed, demonstrating useful tips and tricks for effective nursing and management of your new baby, or intensive, step-by-step support throughout the first few weeks of breastfeeding. The power of video calling also enables me to provide prompt crisis support (often within minutes or short hours of the first contact) for mothers in pain and experiencing difficulties following their baby’s arrival.

I aim to arm my clients with a solid understanding of the lactation cycle - how it works, how to feed and what to expect; also the tools to manage every eventuality during their breastfeeding journey to achieve comfortable, effective breastfeeding and a happy, settled baby.

As a result of the close supervision and support they receive, 95+% of my clients breastfeed successfully for their chosen duration - and often far beyond their own expectations when they discover how rewarding and enjoyable giving a baby the most perfect form of nutrition can be.
