The inside track from a current parent

We wanted our daughter to go to an all girls school that was top of its game, ahead of the curve, forward thinking and comparable to the top boys schools. CLC ticked every box for us and we continue to be totally blown away by the school. Girls are independent thinkers and individual; there is no ‘fixed look’ or mould which is so refreshing. The girls are encouraged to question and challenge the status quo and to think outside the box and above all be themselves.

CLC encourages its girls to be the best at whatever interests them and the school instils an unashamed enthusiasm in them for whatever it is they enjoy. The girls totally believe that they can access leadership roles and become whoever they want in the future – whether that’s a CEO of a top company, a leading scientist, an astronaut, an acclaimed criminal lawyer, play lacrosse for England, be the next PM or quite simply save the world. They are all united in their passion, focus and resilience. We love this individuality!

Eve Jardine-Young is much loved by the girls and is a phenomenal leader. She is supported by an amazing team and my husband and I came away from Y4 teachers meetings last week totally in awe and utterly reassured by the incredible teachers and tuition our daughter is receiving.  We are certainly getting value for money at CLC!

CLC was one of the first schools to address the importance of ‘wellbeing’ and mental health and one step ahead here – sport and fitness are high on the agenda and girls can now enjoy the state of the art Fitness Centre in the heart of the school which has been a big success story.

The girls are happy and this is evident when you see them walking around the school campus and town. There are so many clubs and activities the girls can get involved in – a stunning theatre, huge art block, music department – the list goes on. Cheltenham is an amazing town and a safe environment for the girls to enjoy and explore with everything on their doorstep.

As parents we love...

  • The individuality, capability and open mindedness of the girls encouraged and wholly supported by the incredible teaching they receive.
  • There is a real team attitude amongst the girls when they all get together which is inclusive, powerful yet not remotely arrogant.
  • The girls have a lot of fun together in whatever they are doing – they form friendships across houses and between the boarding and day girls. Events like ‘Trashion’, ‘House Singing’, ‘Talent Competitions’ and ‘The Big Sleepover’ are calendar highlights.

As pupils we love...

  • I love my friends and my classes where it’s OK to just be you, be natural and inquisitive with no pressure.
  • I love being part of The College Choir and singing at amazing venues like at Oxford University and even St Peters’ in Rome this summer!
  • I love the variety of sport and using the new Fitness Centre in the evenings as well as being given the freedom to go into Cheltenham to go shopping!

What makes us different

Cheltenham Ladies’ College was named ‘South West Independent Secondary School of the Decade’ in The Sunday Times ‘Parent Power’ Schools Guide 2021. This fantastic accolade pays tribute to College’s outstanding academic excellence and all-round education over the last 10 years.

The Covid-19 pandemic prompted great change at College, including the implementation of a digital teaching and learning programme that was accessed by students in 47 different countries and across multiple time zones.

Students and staff rallied together to serve their communities by getting involved in numerous initiatives to help those around them. These included the production of PPE, volunteering for the NHS and local food banks.

Despite the challenges of this time, College has been able to celebrate many achievements including two Arkwright Engineering Scholarships, University of Cambridge essay prizes, a British Citizen Youth Award and a recent leaver winning the county-wide Musician of the Year Competition.
