Head's Up
“At Stonar, we foster curiosity and a love of learning, encouraging each pupil to think and question, to participate and persevere. Renowned for our extraordinary equestrian facilities, we are a small school, that is a calm, happy and busy community. All the pupils do very well academically and are fully immersed in the riding, sporting and performing arts programme. Our pupils say it best, ‘I have been supported as an individual every step of the way….the teaching and support are just incredible. I have made friends for life and been helped to achieve my full potential.”

The inside track from a current parent
We chose Stonar because we believed that it would help Charlotte discover her interests (whether academic, sport or extra curricular) in a gentle, supportive environment, not in a results orientated one.
We strongly believe that if Charlotte is happy, she can achieve and tackle anything she wants. Ultimately, being happy is all we want for her. We wanted an environment that let children discover their strengths and areas that interested them, rather than that being pre-determined or expected by us or the school. Stonar is that school.
Prior to joining in Year 7, Charlotte had limited exposure to sport in primary school. Stonar has introduced her to many sports and it is now her ‘joy’.
We can see that she is beginning to grow with confidence. She loves the whole experience of senior school life.
As parents we love...
- The gentle, supportive nature of every member of staff
- The opportunities to visit other schools and countries as part of the NACE group
- But most importantly, watching our daughter progress as a young person, student, athlete, without expectation or stress.
As pupils we love...
- Her friends (she is surrounded by children from families who have similar values to our family)
- Sport at Stonar and the encouragement
- The supportive nature of everyone at the school
What makes us different
A nurturing, family environment
Pupils, parents and teachers alike often describe Stonar as a family. As a small school each pupil is known individually and is supported in the development of their individual interests. Our nurturing ethos is integral to the school, backed up by an outstanding and robust pastoral structure and dedicated teaching team. Pupils at Stonar develop into confident and outgoing young adults who are stretched and inspired to achieve their full potential.
Developing a global outlook
Although a small, family orientated school, pupils at Stonar leave us as successful global citizens. The school is part of the NACE Education Group, which consists of over 50 schools around the world. As a result pupils attending Stonar benefit from developing a global outlook that will be essential for the world in which they will live and work. Through its partnerships with the schools in the group, pupils engage in a wide range of academic and cultural events that allow them to work alongside peers of other nationalities and forge long-term connections and friendships.
Impressive Equestrian Facility
From complete beginners to experienced competitive riders, Stonar offers the unique opportunity to combine an excellent education with an immersive equestrian experience. The school is proud of its British Horse Society approved equestrian centre, which offers outstanding facilities including stabling, indoor and outdoor schools and a cross country schooling field. Forty percent of Stonar pupils are riders, with a number bringing their own horse for livery at the school.
