Pupils are invited to an 11+ or 13+ Assessment Day in the September/October prior to entry (Year 6 and Year 8). This involves an online aptitude test (CEM), a Science lesson, a PE lesson, an interview, team building and two debating activities. Conditional offers are made and girls take 11+ or 13+ Common Entrance in January. Offer holders are invited to attend a sleepover where the emphasis is on fun and getting a taste of life in a boarding school. Final offers are confirmed after the end of January with acceptances required by the beginning of March.
For 16+ entry, girls are requested to take a UKiset test between January and July in Year 10. Girls who meet the required standard will be invited to attend an interview and to sit papers in the subjects they are proposing to study at A level at Wycombe Abbey in the November of Year 11. Firm offers are made based on performance in these subject papers
Head's Up
“Wycombe Abbey has a long tradition of academic excellence, but we are also committed to providing a very wide range of opportunities for intellectual interest and development outside the classroom, collaborating together in a spirit we call ‘Oneness and Joy”
Rhiannon Wilkinson
The inside track from a current parent
The conception that Wycombe Abbey is an academic hothouse is wrong. Whilst it does have strong exam results, this is due to the excellent teachers who are passionate about their subjects and convey a love of learning to their students. Every child is really known, supported and nurtured.
Girls really do have fun. A central theme is that happy children learn better and partake more fully. Outside of academics, whether it is sport, music, drama, dance, debating or fascinating guest speakers – there is something for everyone. Our children have become organised, have a give-things-a-go attitude, a desire to be curious and strong supportive friendships.
Wycombe is focused on developing the whole child and it does this within a culture of joy, respect and care.
As parents we love...
- How much fun our children have with varied and amazing weekend activities
- A strong focus on the well-being of the girls
- The school having a good relationship with the parents
As pupils we love...
- The strong house spirit. The girls are very proud of their house
- The mixed age dorms – the older girls like being a house mother to the younger girls
- Being in nature every day – and barbeque night every Wednesday in the summer!
What makes us different
Wycombe Abbey is a world-class boarding school that achieves academic excellence by providing a rounded, holistic and rewarding educational experience in a caring environment with a strong emphasis on pastoral care.
Based on our A level and I/GCSE results, Wycombe Abbey was ranked as the top Independent Secondary School in the South East, and fourth nationally by The Sunday Times’ Parent Power supplement.
Boarding is the key to our continued success. The School has a culture combined with a bespoke programme that stimulates and inspires throughout the day, seven days a week, empowering girls to achieve their very best, academically and socially. In our happy and close-knit community, each girl is known, and cherished, as an individual.
Our Sixth Form offer is the jewel in the Wycombe Abbey crown and our energetic Sixth Form team combines expertise in curriculum, higher education and enrichment, reaffirming in the girls a love of learning for its own sake. The introduction of The Carrington Award plaits key skills into life at Wycombe Abbey to prepare girls for the broader challenges of life, university and work beyond school.
In addition, the School provides a rich and varied programme of co-curricular opportunities throughout the week, including Art, Cookery, Dance, Drama, Music, Sport, and outdoor education, as well as an extensive range of other pursuits such as charity work and service, MUN, debating and enterprise. These opportunities help girls to develop confidence and the plethora of skills they will require to be successful and happy in the demanding and ever-expanding global workplace.
Wycombe Abbey offers an outstanding education, with first-class facilities set in the wonderful surroundings of 170 acres of magnificent parkland.
