With the Winter Paralympics kicking off this Friday, keep your eye out for these amazing athletes hoping to bring home gold for GB.

Millie Knight has already achieved a lot in her short career, most recently picking up a gold medal during the World Alpine Para Championships last February – not bad given she is only 18! The visually impaired skier has been training hard with her guide, Brett Wilde, who skis about two to three metres in front of her and communicates through Bluetooth headphones in their helmets.  Millie is our Paralympic hopeful in Alpine skiing which has five disciplines including downhill, slalom and Super G.

Owen Pick is a snowboard sensation. Having lost his leg in a Taliban blast whilst on tour in Afghanistan, he turned his hand to snowboarding and within 18 months started making a name for himself in the World ranking, beating experienced able-bodied rivals.  His skills and spirit make him a prime contender for the medal podium.

Ben Moore – After suffering irreparable nerve damage to his arm in a motorcycle accident 9 years ago, Ben has gone on to follow his dreams and reached Silver at last year’s World Championships. This year the Paralympics have opened up the snowboarding event to include upper limb impairments, so he is ready to take on the challenge and fight for gold.

James Barnes-Miller is also known as Stubba, a childhood nickname from his twin brother, due the fact he was born without a hand.  He has been snowboarding for seven years and on the British team for three.  He, like Ben, is now eligible to compete in the upper amputee snowboard cross and banked events.

Also keep an eye out for the wheelchair curlers – with four of the original five successful Sochi medal winners coming back for their second Paralympics, we are looking good for PyeongChang!
