Self-isolation and lock-down will soon become the new ‘normal’ so let’s make sure the precious time we can have outside is spent safely and most importantly having fun! Herewith some suggestions of our top outdoor games to play in your garden or backyard.


Skipping – what a great way to keep fit and there are loads of challenges for the kids including Scissor Jumps, Cross Jumps, Duckies and Swings!! Find out more here

Crazy Golf – it’s amazing how tenacious you can be with a golf ball – move over Tiger. The Great Grub Club shows you how to build your own mini golf course!

Teach your dog a new trick Okay so maybe not how to stick its tongue out, but why not have a go at teaching your pet pooch to wave on cue or roll over? This handy website gives you lots of great tips.  We would love to see all of your canine conquests so please share them with us.

Scavenger Hunt – create your own scavenger hunt.  Anything goes… from finding 5 different leaves to hunting down something that starts with the letter ‘B’ or even a stone with spots on it!

Balancing Games – how long can you stand on one leg? Can you do a lunge with a book on your head? The only limit here is your imagination.

Hopscotch – grab the chalk and get jumping.

Garden TikTok Let’s see whose family deserves the SN gold award for their epic dance routines. Go out, cut some shapes and send us the evidence!

Trampoline ‘Popcorn’ challenge – get one person to sit in the middle of the trampoline holding their knees to their chest. The other person jumps and tries to get the “popcorn to pop” (to get the person’s arms to pop open).  Be careful not to squash the popcorn though!

Blind Man’s Bluff all time classic, need we say more.

Bubble Time – Who can create the biggest and the best? Measure 6 cups of water into one container, then pour 1 cup of dish soap into the water and slowly stir it until the soap is mixed in. Try not to let foam or bubbles form while you stir. Measure 1 tablespoon of glycerin or 1/4 cup of corn syrup and add it to the container. Stir the solution until it is mixed together and leave to stand for an hour.

Bowls – create your own bowling alley. Decorate empty toilet rolls or drinks bottles to create your own pins. You could create animals, monsters, super heroes, fairies – anything! French Cricket – a form of cricket that creates a game similar to catch. Lots of family variations on the rules  – click here for the basics.

Grandmother’s footsteps younger kids never bore of this. The aim is to reach grandma without being seen. If she catches you moving – back you go to the start!

Family Tug of War good old fashioned fun – just make sure it doesn’t get too competitive!
