October’s top viewing picks ?

Yes! The biggest bonus of it getting dark so early these days is that you don’t have to feel remotely guilty about shutting the curtains, curling up on the sofa and reaching for the controls – we certainly don’t!  Here are some favourites watches from this month plus a few spooky extras for Halloween!

TOP DOCUMENTARY – DIANA IN HER OWN WORDS (NETFLIX)

First on our screens in 2017 (but with a resurgence due the new series of The Crown around the corner) this documentary is back on the Netflix watch list.  A fascinating insight into the world of Diana using the tapes she narrated for the explosive Andrew Morton book.  It will take you from her early days at Althorp to meeting Charles and life throughout her marriage. Yes it’s one sided, after all it’s in her own words, but fascinating none-the-less.

TOP BINGE-WORTHY BOXSET – THE HAUNTING OF BLY MANOR (NETFLIX)

We’re loving this gothic romance, mainly from behind our pillows though.  When the descriptor of this film is ‘Dead doesn’t mean gone’ you know you are in for a treat . A young governess arrives at Bly Manor and begins to see apparitions haunting the estate and we are not talking the likes Casper. Absolutely brilliant and will have you on the edge of your seats!

TOP WATCH WITH THE KIDS – ANNE WITH AN ‘E’ (NETFLIX)

For those of you who can remember, this series harks back to the days of Little House of the Prairie, a binge-watch of its time.  Anne with an ‘E’ follows the life of a plucky orphan who is sent to live with a spinster and her brother. It tells her story as she seeks to transform and better the lives of people around her.  Adapted from Lucy Maud Montgomery’s 1908 classic, Anne of Green Gables, Anne with an ‘E’ is a winner – best of all there are 3 series to get stuck in to

OH AND KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR…

THE UNDOING (SKY ATLANTIC)

One episode in and we are already hooked! Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant star as a wealthy New York-based couple whose world is turned upside down overnight by the occurrence of a violent death and Hugh’s disappearance.  We shall definitely be tuning in, popcorn at the ready next week.

THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT (NETFLIX)

New to Neftlix this month, The Queen’s Gambit is a fictional story that follows the life of an orphan chess prodigy  from the age of eight to 22 as she battles to become the world’s greatest chess player, while struggling with emotional issues and with drug and alcohol dependency.  You don’t need to know a thing about chess to enjoy this one.  Beautifully shot and incredibly acted – definitely one to watch.
