Our favourite books to curl up with this half term
There’s nothing better than reading a great book on a cosy autumnal day. If you’re seeking some book recommendations for some of the (hopefully!) quieter moments over half term, the SN Team has delivered with their current favourites!
Magpie – Elizabeth Day
Unputdownable! This was not a predictable story by any means as it had lots of twists and turns along the way. An intriguing look into the world of surrogacy and what might go wrong… but not necessary in the way you might think! It’s also a subject very close to the author’s heart. – Mouse
Ruth & Pen – Emilie Pine
This was incredibly emotional and moving. It made me take a look at how well and how often I express myself and my desires in my everyday life. The characters both battle to express themselves in their respective relationships and it turns out… I don’t! – Tash
Wrong Place, Wrong Time – Gillian McAllister
Set in October – couldn’t be a more perfect autumnal read! This book had great storytelling and had me in suspense – most of all it doesn’t play the usual mind games and really keeps you guessing. My advice is not to look up the blurb, it’s best to go in blind! – Beth
Elektra – Jennifer Saint
Just absolutely gorgeous and written in such a way that the characters are vibrantly brought to life. Perfect for lovers of Circe, Ariadne and Song of Achilles. An Ancient Greek dream! – Milly
On the Roof Top – Margaret Wilkerson Sexton
I got this recommendation from Reese’s Book Club and, as always, was not disappointed! Set in the glamorous 1950s, it’s all about a mother’s big dreams of stardom for her three children. They battle through issues of race, money and resistance from the girls themselves! If you love historical fiction you’ll devour this in a few days. – Monique
We’re Living Through a Breakdown – Tatton Spiller
With the country currently in political turmoil, this one couldn’t be more relevant! If you wish you were a little better informed and better equipped in the world of politics, it’s the ideal read for super relevant, interesting and straightforward information about the issues going on in the world right now. Not one to binge in a day but to take some time over. You’ll be glad you did! – Tia
